The Octopus Project may have it all figured out as their 2005 track “Music is Happiness,” prophetically proclaimed. Discovery Health put out a study detailing how music can cause dopamine release in the brain. You can read the article here. So feeling down at times? just listen to these tracks, because drugs are bad.
Download the track below to hear a Nickelodeon show in the same verse as Iran’s prez. On top of that since it was just MLK day, the opening sample is him.
Blonde Redhead tonight at La Zona Rosa
The Octopus Project Hexadecagon @ Eastside Drivein 12/3
Chiddy Bang also 12/3 at Republic Live
Thanks to that bitch Danica Patrick and GoDaddy my site was removed but is finally back online. For the first show back I’m catching Hexadecagon in Dallas. The show originally premiered at SXSW and I stood in line at Whole Foods for hours and never got a wristband to get in. Now Austin’s own The Octopus Project is recreating their Hexadecagon performance for two Texas shows, tonight (11/18) in Dallas at the South Side Music Hall (Gilley’s) and Austin 12/3 at Eastside Drive-in. It’s guaranteed to cause seizures, the 360 degree surround sound/video show is an aural/visual orgasm that The Octopus Project in all their hallucinogenic genius hath created. Look for more of these audio/visual performances in the future as its a natural progression, thankfully we can easily catch these experiences.
With SXSW starting soon why not drop some knowledge on a band not performing at the fest. But they will be opening for Phoenix at their next show. This Irish 3 piece has yet to drop their US release yet but the UK got theirs last month. Their debut album Tourist History, is an electro-pop gem that will have them headlining Stubbs or La Zona Rosa on their next US tour. Now I’m really upset I didn’t get any Phoenix tickets.
Pretty decent game tonight, now grab four tracks that I’ve been giving heavy playtime recently. First off one of my favorite bands Band of Horses and a new track that will be on their upcoming new album Night Rainbow. The track is a good quality live recording from Bonnaroo last year, I have a feeling we may be seeing these guys soon (SXSW).
2010 may be Nneka’s year, watch out for this one she’s definelty got it. Her debut album Concrete Jungle just dropped two weeks ago, check out this remake of her hit single.
I was at Red Fez a couple of Fridays ago and was dancing to the end of Jeramy’s (Learning Secrets) set and heard this track below from Hercules and Love Affair, I could not remember the vocalist’s name and thankfully after going back and forth with Jeramy the answer, Antony, enjoy…
He claims Austin as his home and I cannot wait to see him in March at SX. He is one of the hottest DJ’s right now and will be deservingly huge soon. He found what MSTRKRFT was missing with this one.
MSTRKRFT – Heartbreaker (Feat. John Legend) (Wolfgang Gartner Remix)
Merry Christmas folks hope all had some good family time. Below are some tracks I’ve been playing lately. Freelance Whales are my favorite band at the moment they have a unique sound and their debut album, Weathervanes is as solid as they come one of the best of 09 in my opinion. Two of their tracks are below and the album is available on iTunes. Memory Tapes aka Dayve Hawk, new single Bicycle, a wavy cancion to put on your playlist. One more from our buddy Bassnectar – remake of the Pixies epic, Jesus thank you for Bassnectar.
Octopus Project, Austin’s favorite Indie Electronic outfit, will be playing Mohawk Monday night along with All My Friends, Sunset, Neiliyo, and Markus (with a K). They recently played along with Voxtrot after Fun Fun Fun Fest and closed with the live debut of Wet Gold. Grab the Mp3 below and Tickets Here. The party is a celebration for Tibaut’s 30th birthday (aka DJ Thibault also half of Auto Body) he has some cool friends. Best Monday ever.
The weekend has arrived, make your way to the Parish tonight for The Rural Alberta Advantage the Canadian Indie rockers are playing tonight and shouldn’t be missed. Their debut album Hometowns dropped last year and placed them on the radar in the wonderful world of Canadian Indie. Grab their track below.
Saturday – Beauty Bar
El Ten Eleven will amaze and entertain you in a way only they can. The L.A. post-rock duo are absolutely wonderful in the way they create a wall of sound with their double neck guitars and multiple effect pedals. Saw them last time they played at Beauty Bar and am truly sad to missout tomorrow as I’m in Dallas.
