Miike Snow – US Tour Begins in Austin for SXSW

It turns out Miike Snow like so many before them will be kicking off their US tour/ Festival Season this March right here in Austin for SXSW. MediaTemple will be hosting the party at Stubbs Tuesday March 13th. Their original dates had them kicking it off at the ridiculously stacked Ultra Fest in Miami, with stops at Coachella and numerous east and west coast dates before ending in the great white north.

Alan Paloma, aka VEGA, aka Ghosthustler, has a new album coming out under the Neon Indian moniker called Era Extrana. No stranger to the Austin scene Alan has been crafting his sound amongst us for several years. My first encounter came at Beauty Bar in early 09 for VEGA’s CD release party. After that epic danceparty I was hooked until a few mediocre Neon Indian performances, most notably at FFFFest 4. Since then he has definitely found his sound and stage presence to live up to his potential and the new single off his album (Polish Girl) is owning the top spot on Hype Machine.

Gardens & Villa – Mohawk August 10th

Having recently released their debut self-titled album Gardens & Villa have been touring heavily supporting it, most recently opening for Foster the People. These friends from Santa Barbara apparently camped outside the studio in Oregon where they recorded this album. They have a refreshingly synthesized sound with the highlight being Black Hills and Star Fire Power. You can catch them at Mohawk on the 10th and it will be a show not to miss.

Benjamin Francis Leftwich – Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm

This is the epitome of why I love indie music, I had never heard of Benjamin Francis Leftwich until recently and am an instant fan. His debut full length just dropped on America’s birthday ironically in the UK, Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm, and it’s simply brilliant. Beautifully melancholic at times, his album is emotional and has apparently been in production for the last four years. Not sure when the U.S. release date is but you can purchase from Amazon UK. Holy Ghost! Holy Ghost!

New York electronic genius’ Holy Ghost! released their full length debut awhile back, and it’s pure gold. I’ve loved them from the first moment I heard I Will Come Back, and have been a fan ever since. They are disco, floor-filling masterminds whose intoxicating tracks make your muscles twitch on each bassline. The modern disco king, James Murphy of DFA Records and LCD Soundsytem, not only signed them but also produced their first single. In their debut full length they have shown they are a force in the genre and will be headlining their own tours soon. The new single Wait and See, is my favorite track of 2011. ENJOY

Free Press Summerfest This Weekend – Holy Ship! Lineup Out

Summerfest has progressed into a legit festival over the last few years, major headliners and the price is right. I’m anxious to see the production and how it compares to major festivals. Tickets are still available and they are only $45 for two day pass. Beirut who’s sold out show at ACL Live next week will be there in addition to Weezer, Ween, Chromeo, Bun B, and Cut Copy. Cut Copy is also playing a DJ set Sunday night at Fitzgeralds but if you have to get back to Austin skip it as their DJ set a while back at Malverde wasn’t that great.

Check this a fucking 3 day electronic music cruise with stops in the Bahamas and a concert featuring Fatboy Slim and Diplo on a private island.

New Ghostland Observatory track from Nocturnal Festival

Nocturnal Fest a few weeks ago was pretty ridiculous, it was my first time to attend and had a great time. It’s an hour drive from town in a hay field, which makes it feel like the good old days of raving. However the production is top notch, it is a very professional festival and the stage/lights/crew are more like ACL than the infamous Airport raves of the late 90′s. Crystal Castles played a solid high energy set that Ghostland tried to keep up with. The laser show was great as always and they dropped this track I have never heard before. It’s not the best but worth a listen.
