To Tell The Truth, This Will Be The Last Time… Goodbye LCD

April 3rd, 2011

While most of us were having a typical Saturday night, a very lucky group of people were physically present to witness the end of LCD Soundsystem. James Murphy and crew went on for over three hours to say farewell to an insane crowd at Madison Square Garden. From what I’ve seen and heard the show lived up to the moment, as James Murphy will never perform again. There will be no reunion in five years for some festival, as he loved his music, he was tired of the road and I believe is looking forward to being a living legend. He cofounded DFA Records, he created the greatest dance band of our generation, and even my father’s a fan. The whole concert can be seen below and a DVD by Spike Jonze will be coming out soon. Enjoy and pour some on the block son.

Music is Happiness

March 30th, 2011

The Octopus Project may have it all figured out as their 2005 track “Music is Happiness,” prophetically proclaimed. Discovery Health put out a study detailing how music can cause dopamine release in the brain. You can read the article here. So feeling down at times? just listen to these tracks, because drugs are bad.

SXSW Music starts in a month – Broken Social Scene Tomorrow

February 17th, 2011

SXSW RSVP season has begun and the bands have pretty much been announced minus the big boy secret shows (Radiohead?). Wristbands are still on-sale here for $165, definitely the best deal is you’re going for several days.  This is the first year I will have a badge and am extremely excited, this will be just my second year of volunteering for the film portion of SXSW and its a great way to get a free badge or wristband before the music begins on Wednesday.  The SXSW office is located at 400 Bowie and if you stop by you may still be able to get into the program.  The current band list is here, it’s a bitch to go thru but worth it.

Broken Social Scene club show at La Zona Rosa tomorrow

Also tickets went on sale today for Marina and the Diamonds at Antone’s for only $13 presale code is familyjewels tickets can be found here.   I’ve attached my favorite remix of hers by Penguin Prison.

Send Me An Angel

February 4th, 2011

Ellie Goulding broke out in a big way last year with her debut full length Lights, her pop has been remixed by just about every producer in existence.  The latest from dubstep crossover Bassnectar is number one on the Hype Machine.   Hype Machine if you haven’t checked it out before is the best fucking thing since Napster.  Ellie is on her way to Austin from her home across the pond for a little thing called SXSW, she is an absolute must see if you can get in to her shows.  Her schedule has her in town all week so hopefully there will be multiple showcases.   I have posted a few remixes of her hits Starry Eyed and Lights.  In honor of her angelic voice posted is also a clip from a movie that changed my life and is the best movie to never be released on DVD.  Listen up and bust out your old Mongoose.

Red Dawn Austin is Back from the Nothing – The Future is Octopus Project Hexadecagon

November 18th, 2010

Thanks to that bitch Danica Patrick and GoDaddy my site was removed but is finally back online.  For the first show back I’m catching Hexadecagon in Dallas.  The show originally premiered at SXSW and I stood in line at Whole Foods for hours and never got a wristband to get in.  Now Austin’s own The Octopus Project is recreating their Hexadecagon performance for two Texas shows, tonight (11/18) in Dallas at the South Side Music Hall (Gilley’s) and Austin 12/3 at Eastside Drive-in.  It’s guaranteed to cause seizures, the 360 degree surround sound/video show is an aural/visual orgasm that The Octopus Project in all their hallucinogenic genius hath created.  Look for more of these audio/visual performances in the future as its a natural progression, thankfully we can easily catch these experiences.
